Giving birth abroad as a foreign resident

What changes when you already live in the country, rather than flying in for the delivery.

Giving birth abroad as a foreign resident

A resident’s birth is a healthcare problem and a paperwork problem. It is not an immigration strategy. Your visa should already be real before the third trimester.

Insurance is the first gate. In Germany and Austria you want to be in the statutory fund or an accepted private plan. In the UAE the employer plan’s maternity cap is the number that matters. In Canada, confirm whether your province still has a waiting period. In Thailand, a travel policy will not pay Bumrungrad for a planned delivery.

Book the obstetrician and the hospital while you can still choose. Popular maternity wards fill. A midwife in the German-speaking countries is booked early for the same reason.

Then the two registrations: local civil registry, then your embassy. Add the baby to your residence file and to your insurance. A baby who is not on the parent’s status can be the person who cannot board the flight home.

If you do not yet live in the country, we will not help you fly in late in pregnancy to obtain a nationality. If you do live there, we will walk the hospital and the paperwork with you.
