How to open a bank account in another country

What expats and non-residents need for a foreign bank account: residency, tax numbers, source of funds, and why private introductions still face compliance.

How to open a bank account in another country

Banks ask three things before they care about your nationality: where you are tax resident, whether you already have the right to live in their country, and where the money came from. “Open a bank account abroad” as a non-resident is possible at some institutions and impossible at others. The brochure rarely says which.

Apichaya Brako prepares the household pack — identity, address, the source-of-funds story in plain sentences — and introduces regulated banks that take clients with your profile. Compliance can still say no. That no is an answer, not a cue to try a less regulated route.

An account is not a wealth transfer. Moving a balance across borders is its own mandate, with reporting. If the money cannot be explained, we will not introduce you.

Investment accounts, custody, and property purchase often need the bank first. Sequence them. Buying the apartment before anyone will bank you is how families end up stuck at completion.
