School deadlines if your children move in 2027
International schools do not follow your job offer. A 2027 start is often decided by an application window in 2026.
In Rio, and in most cities we work with, the family who waits for a residence card before they ask a school is often late. Schools fill. Some only start in one month of the year. I would rather tell you the window is shut than pretend a place will appear.
What to ask a school before you fall in love with it
The intake month. The grade your child would enter, which is not always the grade they are in now. The language they must already have. Whether a learning report is required. What the waiting list actually means. A deposit is not a place.
Mid-year or September
A mid-year move
Possible in some schools, painful in others. A teenager in an exam year should not be moved because a lease was convenient.
A 2027 start
Ask this autumn which schools for that city are already taking 2027 files. Then put the residence question next to that date. A school offer you cannot take, because you cannot live in the country, is not a plan.
