How families plan a second residence abroad
Golden visas, residence permits, and a second home: what to search, what counsel must decide, and how it connects to schools and housing.

“Second residence”, “golden visa”, and “residence by investment” are the phrases families type when they want a lawful base outside the country on their primary passport. The programmes are real in some countries and marketing in others. The difference is the statute, the fund, and whether your nationality is eligible.
We do not sell permits. We sit with the family, write the constraints — children, tax year, source of funds, how many days you will actually be there — and introduce licensed immigration counsel for the routes that survive those constraints. A permit you cannot live with, because the school or the lease does not exist, is an expensive sticker.
If the motive is Europe’s security climate, read the essay on a second home while Europe stays uneasy. The planning is the same: a country that will take this family, a school, a home, and an honest cost if you never move.
Tax residency is a separate question from a residence card. Spending the nights, the centre of vital interests, and what you tell the tax authority are counsel’s and your tax adviser’s work. We sequence them so they are not a surprise in year two.
