Birth abroad and the parents’ residence status
When a child’s birth helps a parent stay, and when it does nothing at all.

Parents ask one question in two directions and the answers are opposite. ‘Does our baby get a passport?’ is not ‘do we get to stay?’
In the United States the baby is a citizen and cannot sponsor a parent until the child is an adult, and even then it is a visa process. A newborn changes nothing about a visitor visa. In Thailand, Vietnam, and the UAE the baby is not a citizen and the birth changes nothing about the parents’ visa either.
In Brazil, a minor Brazilian child can be the basis of a parent’s residence authorisation. That is a filing, with documents and a decision. It is not citizenship. Mexico, and some other jus soli countries, have family-unity routes that are similarly a filing rather than a gift.
In Germany, a German child can matter to a parent’s residence and still not produce a permit if income and housing fail the test. The birth does not replace those conditions.
Bring the parents’ current stamps to the first meeting. We will say, with counsel, whether the child changes the file. If the answer is no, you will hear it then, not after a hospital invoice.
