If Germany’s politics are part of why you want another home
Some residents, including people who moved here, are asking about a second residence as the AfD’s influence grows. We plan a lawful option. We do not tell you how to vote.

I run the Germany desk. The new notes are not only about tax or a job. People write that the AfD has more influence, in states and in the federal argument, and that they no longer feel at ease. Some of those notes come from Germans. Many come from people who moved here, whose children were born here, or whose name still gets a second look.
What we will say, and what we will not
We do not tell you how to vote. We do not claim that a party’s poll numbers are a crime statistic, and we do not tell you that Germany has become unsafe as a fact. We do take seriously what a family tells us: that daily life feels harder, that they are tired of explaining themselves, and that they want a lawful place they could go if they decide to.
If that is your reason, the file is still ordinary
Your status in Germany comes first
A permanent card, a temporary one, citizenship in progress, and a visa that depends on a job are not the same starting point. Leaving, or keeping a foot here, changes each of them differently. A lawyer reads that. We do not.
A second residence is not an exit
It is a permit somewhere else, on that country’s rules, often while you still live here. It does not erase a German tax question, and it does not protect you from a law you have not read. Couples with two passports need both of them on the table. Children need a school date, not a mood.
2027 is a calendar, not a reaction
If you want the option next year, start the questions now: where you could actually stay, what it costs, and what you would be giving up here. Bring the feeling. Also bring the passports. We will not turn a political argument into a product.
